Problem description
Until recently, the problem of modernization of the outdoor lighting system in Severodonetsk was acute for the city government. The lack of street lighting in some parts of the city has negatively affected security and comfort of citizens on their way home in the evening and at night. Therefore, in 2015, with the financial support of the Nordic Initiative for Humanitarian Support and Energy Efficiency (Ukraine) Foundation, the city implemented an Energy Efficiency Project, during which a large-scale modernization of the street lighting system was launched.
The successful experience of this project prompted the city government not to stop there and continue expanding the reconstruction scope of the municipal street lighting system.
Ways to solve the problem
The new Street Lighting in Severodonetsk project was implemented under a NEFCO-funded loan program. Within the framework of the project, obsolete street lamps were replaced with energy-efficient ones and cable networks were upgraded on the Novikova street, Donetska street, Smetanina street, Mayakovsky street, Science street, Vilesova street and Guards Avenue.
Thanks to the professional management of the FIATU LLC team, the project was successfully implemented for less budget than planned. The saved funds were directed to finance additional works on reconstruction of street lighting on the Lomonosova street, Gorky street and Lysychanska street.
As a result, the aesthetic appearance of the city at night has significantly improved, and citizens are more comfortable and safe to walk the city streets in the evening.
