Problem description

The general school # 4 was built in 1986. It has two buildings: the main building #1 for educational purposes and the building # 2 where assembly hall, canteen, sports hall, library and nonworking swimming pool are located. The building walls are made of concrete panels. The school building is heated by district heating. The main building is equipped with individual heating substation allowing to regulate heat consumption. However it could not work efficiently as the heat was lost though the building envelope.

Ways to problem solving

FIATU assessed the situation and offered a sound energy efficiency solution: replacement of old windows with modern energy efficient windows and wall insulation in the main building. In combination with the already installed individual heating substation it allowed regulating heat consumption and result in energy savings. We also recommended installing individual heating substation in the second building to adjust energy consumption to the building attendance, which is pretty low compared to the attendance of the main building.

Problem description

The city has nearly 3000 street lights, 2400 of which are mercury lamps. The avenue of Peoples’ Friendship is the main city street. One of its pavement sides had missing lights while the other side was lighted by mercury lamps with the capacity of 250 and 150 W.

Ways to problem solving

FIATU supported the municipality in its intention to become more energy efficiency and make the central avenue the focal point for application of advanced street lighting technologies. The calculations of the expected outcomes were promising. Restoration of lighting and use of LED lamps instead of mercury lamps had two side effect: significant reduction in electricity consumption and overhaul of the street lighting for the avenue.
