Konotop 2013

FIATU conducted energy audit in 10 different types of buildings (schools, kindergartens an hospitals) and developed a balanced list of energy saving measures (replacement of windows and doors, installation of individual heating substations, installation of solid fuel boilers), to be implemented in each building depending on the need. We selected key direction – transition to alternative energy source, wood boilers, for heat supply.

Problem description

The building of the kindergarten №10 “Yalynka” got heat and hot water from individual gas boilers, which didn’t allow regulating heat consumption based on outside temperature. Expenditures on gas supply grew each year as the gas price was steadily growing.

Solution to the problem

FIATU specialists suggested abandoning natural gas and using alternative energy source of heat – solid fuels. Solid-fuel boilers can burn wood, coal, wooden chips, and pellets. Wood is the most accessible fuel in Sumy region because of the existing wood industries that need recycling. As a result of transition from gas to wood the kindergarten significantly decreased its expenditures on heating and its dependence on gas.
